DOMINICAN FATHERS

The primary understanding is that Dominican Communities are place where we have a sense of belonging among others friars with one mind and heart in God. At time we can live together but do not have a sense of belonging.

All Dominican Apostolates is a preaching apostolate, the parish is one of the main avenues for preaching.

A vocation to the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) is an individual who hears the call of God and has a passion and desire to preach the Gospel for the salvation of souls by living the traditions of the order, the common life, study, prayer and vowed obedience to a common Rule and Constitutions and the willingness to be sent.

Studium or studentate is a center of institutional studies. Dominican professors and Dominican student brothers form an academic community in which lay men and women may also participate, where all students acquire the Ibadan priory is the centre of basic studies for the Dominicans of the Province of Nigeria and Ghana.

In 1982, the Society for Vocation Support was established as an arm of the St. Jude Apostolate for the Dominican Province of St. Joseph the Worker (Nigeria and Ghana). The primary purpose of this organization is to solicit for financial assistance for the formation (training) of our Students to the religious life and priesthood.

Dominicans are missionaries by their vocation. One is sent to preach for the salvation of souls. As part of a global Dominican family, preachers founded by Dominic de Guzman (1170–1221), he, himself sent out the first group of missionaries of his Order and traveled with missionary zeal from one place to another. Dominican friars were among the earliest missionaries in the 'new world' of the Americas during the sixteenth century. Dominican Missionaries are a piece of a much larger vision.

The Dominican University Ibadan, Nigeria is the first university the Order of Preachers on the African continent. Popularly called the Dominican Order, the Order of Preachers was founded by Spanish priest Dominic de Guzman in 1216 with the approval of Pope Innocent III. In her more than 800 years of existence, the Order has been actively involved in university education around the world. The Dominican University in Ibadan was established on the 800th anniversary of the foundation of the Order.

Dominican Media is an initiative of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans, Province of Nigeria & Ghana), a religious Order founded by Saint Dominic for the purpose of preaching the truth of the Gospel and refuting falsehood. Dominican Media is aimed at educating the society on moral and social issues via its programms and as well offer quality services in production of short films, documentaries, events coverage and rentals of media equipment.
